What Are Solar Bollard Lights?

Solar bollard lights are standalone lighting systems equipped with solar panels to harness sunlight and convert it into electricity. This energy is then stored in batteries during the daytime and used to power LED lamps when night falls.

These bollard lights are completely self-contained, not relying on the electrical grid, which makes them environmentally sustainable and economical to operate. They are typically used to light pathways, gardens, and pedestrian areas in both residential and commercial settings. By providing dependable lighting after dark, solar bollard lights enhance safety and visibility, making outdoor spaces more accessible and secure.

Solar Pathway Lighting

Solar pathway lighting is an essential feature for enhancing the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of commercial landscapes. Among the most effective solutions in this category are solar bollard lights and solar post top lights, both of which offer distinctive benefits and are particularly suited to commercial settings.

Commercial Solar Bollard Lights

Solar bollard lights provide efficient ground-level illumination. These lights are ideal for outlining pathways, gardens, and the perimeters of commercial properties like office parks, retail plazas, and hospitality venues. The integrated design of solar bollard lights—which includes solar panels, batteries, and LED lamps—ensures a compact, unobtrusive look while still offering sufficient lighting to enhance visibility and safety. Their robust construction allows them to withstand heavy use and varying weather conditions, making them a durable choice for commercial landscapes.

Commercial Solar Post Top Lights

Solar post top lights, positioned on taller poles, illuminate a wider area from above, making them suitable for lighting large commercial spaces such as parking lots, driveways, and expansive gardens in corporate campuses or hotels. These fixtures often feature a top-mounted solar panel to maximize exposure to sunlight, harnessing enough power to illuminate larger areas effectively. The elevated placement of post top lights not only broadens their light coverage but also serves as a design element that can enhance the overall look of a commercial property.

Solar Bollard Light Installation

In this section we are going to discuss various mounting options for solar powered LED bollard lights. In this particular example, we’re going to use some of our most popular models made by Solera.

The installation of the Solera solar powered LED flood lights is designed to be straightforward and efficient, ensuring secure mounting and optimal performance. Here is a detailed step-by-step guide obtained from the specification sheet.

  1. Preparing for Installation
    • Choose a location that receives ample sunlight to ensure the solar panel can charge efficiently. Avoid places under heavy shade or covered areas.
    • Ensure the installation site is level and stable.
  2. Assembling the Light
    • Unpack all parts of your solar bollard light. Typically, this will include the light head, a pole, and the base plate with necessary screws and fittings.
    • Some models might come fully assembled, in which case you can skip to the mounting step.
  3. Mounting the Baseplate
    • Position the baseplate at your chosen spot on the ground.
    • Using the baseplate as a template, mark the positions for drilling. Ensure it aligns properly for a vertical installation of the pole.
    • Drill holes at the marked positions and insert the screws to secure the baseplate firmly to the ground.
  4. Attaching the Pole
    • Once the baseplate is secure, attach the pole to the baseplate. This might require additional screws or might simply slot into the baseplate depending on the design.
    • Ensure that the pole is straight and secure before proceeding.
  5. Installing the Light Fixture
    • Attach the solar bollard light head to the top of the pole.
    • Make sure that the light head is securely attached and that all electrical connections, if separate, are properly connected.
  6. Activating the Light
    • Most solar bollard lights have an integrated on/off switch to conserve battery life during shipping. Locate the switch, which may be under a waterproof plug.
    • Turn the switch to the "on" position to activate the solar light.
  7. Final Checks
    • After installation, ensure the solar panel atop the light is clean and free of debris.
    • Check the light at night to confirm it is working correctly, providing adequate illumination.
